"Part 1 of Japanese: The Spoken Language teaches modern spoken Japanese through drills and functional exchanges. Each lesson is divided into three sections. The first two sections contain core conversations and their English equivalents (single exchanges between two people), and a “breakdown” of the dialogue with supplementary vocabulary, miscellaneous notes, structural patterns, drills, and application exercises. The last section in the lesson focuses on listening comprehension and review. The textbook also includes an English-Japanese, Japanese-English glossary. The series is entirely romanized. Upon completion of Part 1, students will be able to converse in Japanese at a basic level. "
